Padre Munir El Rai, inspetor salesiano no Oriente Médio, relatou,
em setembro, a situação da Síria. Um testemunho de como os salesianos
vivem, junto aos jovens a eles confiados, nessa terra assolada pela
violência.
A situação da Síria está piorando, Alepo, Damasco e arredores são
atacados e bombardeados. A falta de combustível, eletricidade, água,
pão, gás, gasolina e automóveis, bem como a paralização dos mercados e o
desemprego, aumentamainsegurança e o caos. As comunicações eletrônicas
tornaram-se difíceis. A situação econômica geral piora a olhos vistos, o
que motiva o fechamento de fábricas e outras atividades e o crescimento
do desemprego.
Mais de 30.000 pessoas foram mortas, os feridos são cerca de 200.000,
com milhares de famílias entre os desabrigados e refugiados. A violência
foi desencadeada, com homicídios, sequestros, atos de vandalismo,
saques, incêndios nos edifícios governamentais e instalações públicas. A

Desde meados de março de 2011, a Síria – que se destaca no mundo pela

luz no fim do túnel. Estamos muito tristes, preocupados e desanimados

mantemos a esperança de que uma solução pacífica será encontrada.
Desabrigados e refugiados
Atualmente, há cerca de um milhão e meio de desabrigados e refugiados. A
maior parte dos desabrigados procurou refúgio nas cidades de Damasco e
Alepo, e nas zonas montanhosas ao redor de Homs e Hama, área na qual
ocorreu o início do combate. Os desabrigados foram acolhidos nas escolas
e prédios públicos. Para as milhares de famílias desalojadas a situação
é dramática, muitas têm necessidade urgente de atendimento médico e
alimentação, mas a ajuda humanitária tem dificuldade em ser entregue e é
ainda escassa. Outros 300.000 sírios já desembarcaram nos quatro campos
de refugiados construídos nos países fronteiriços.
Nessa faseé muito importante apoiar as minorias religiosas, fornecendo
assistênciae ajudando a aliviar a incerteza, imposta pela perda
frequente de trabalho e pela elevação de confrontos que atualmente
envolvem seus bairros. A fuga das minorias religiosas para o exterior
privaria a futura Síria do seu pluralismo religioso, social e cultural
com o papel que isso implica no processo de democratização e de
recuperação da convivência pacífica.
Salesianos na Síria
Os salesianos procuram dar suporte às famílias dos desabrigados nas
cidades de Damasco, Alepo e Kafroun com atenção particular às crianças e
aos jovens. Promovem atividades recreativas e educacionais nas escolas e
nos centros de atendimento que acolhem os desabrigados. Muitas escolas
einstalações educacionais e recreativas em Alepo e Damasco foram
utilizadas para acomodar os provenientes do campo e dos bairros mais
afetados pelos combates.
Nessas estruturas,as crianças e os jovens levam uma vida baseada na
busca da subsistência, sem atividades voltadas ao restabelecimento de
algum elemento de normalidade, tais como atividades didáticas. Nos
últimos anos, as estruturas salesianas permaneceram sem auxílio devido
aos confrontos que têm impedido os jovens de alcançá-las. As atividades
realizadas pelos salesianos e colaboradores, nessas escolas e
instalações educacionais, seriam atividades educativas e recreativas
diariamente.
Eles realizamatividades de amparo às minorias cristãs, às vezes dão seu
apoio durante a fase de emergência e focam em melhorar o estado de
insegurança no qual se encontram as famílias e para impedir a sua fuga
do país. Tudo objetivou ajudá-las na procura de um alojamento,
alimentos, roupas, materiais didáticos e medicamentos.
Além de todo este empenho, é preciso destacar que atualmente a
comunidade salesiana na Síria abre toda noite os seus centros para
acolher familiarmente aqueles que assim o desejarem, trocando momentos
de fraternidade, de apoio recíproco e de oração compartilhada.
Firmes, entre os meninos
A comunidade salesiana em Alepo é composta por 4 irmãos e 1 pré-noviço.
O Oratório do Centro Juvenil é frequentado por muitos meninos e jovens:
cerca de 450 cristãos de vários ritos, sobretudo nos dias de
sexta-feira, sábado e domingo. Em Kafroun, a casa é aberta no verão para
os acampamentos e os grupos, com a presença permanente de dois irmãos.
Já a comunidade de Damasco é composta por quatro irmãos que animam o
Oratório do Centro Juvenil. A comunidade também está envolvida no
trabalho com os refugiados iraquianos. É um centro educativo para cerca
de 100 meninos e meninas do ensino fundamental ao médio, que abandonaram
a escola por motivos diversos, dando-lhes educação escolar, cultural,
religiosa.
Paz para a Síria
O inspetor dos Salesianos do Oriente Médio, padre Munir El Rai,
retornou no final de setembro e início de outubro às comunidades da

Mostrou-me também o ânimo dos homens que pedem somente paz e segurança; e
compreenderam que a solução pode vir somente através do diálogo. Vi
também um intenso retorno à fé, à oração e à vontade de viver”, relata
padre Munir.
Para ele, os maiores desafios atualmente são: socorrer a população
nessa fase de emergência, fornecendo ajuda humanitária; e trabalhar para
que o ódio não permaneça em meio ao povo sírio quando finalmente
retornar a paz. “Em nome de tantos sírios que encontrei durante esta
viagem, peço que rezem por nós”, conclui padre El Rai.
